Self storage started in the USA which is where Bob Plumridge, a long term Ventnor resident, first came across a facility in the early 90s while on a business trip exporting antiques. He opened the present business in 1994, the first on the Island, not listening to the plentiful and helpful advice that told him it will never work here. The business thrived from the start and funded its own expansion to the present 100 rooms and containers.
Britain has become the biggest market for self storage in Europe and its capacity has grown enormously in the last 8 years largely through franchise and multi national outlets. Now less than 50% of the overall capacity is family run. We are part of this dying breed that quietly and successfully provides a storage service for residents and visitors in South Wight and beyond. Our confidence in the future of our business is based on the fact we own our site, our overheads are low, and we have no performance targets winging their way from head office, nor any franchise fee to pay.
Though essentially a simple business, we do continuously respond and adapt to the needs of our customers, and take account of any special requirements they may have - we go that extra mile.
Plumridge Self Storage is now part of Jadestone Traders, the Island-based recycling specialists.
